Meanwhile Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” hit No. 1 on Billboard Global 200, with several albums also at the top of the Billboard charts and a massive increase in Spotify streaming numbers. As we enter summer 2026 to the beats of “Baby” and “Thriller”, Gen Z is leaning into playfulness, nostalgia, and international connection – and, as culture goes, the fashion scene will reflect those current values.

As international exchange of culture and products continues to accelerate, America’s younger generation has greater access to the Asian fashion scene and, this summer, is adopting their tactics. Taking inspiration from our childhood closets, which necessitated functionality and comfort as much as self-expression, breathable fabrics are another way in which Gen Z is revisiting their youth.
